Manuscript Submission
All manuscripts must be submitted online through the Society's website (http://www.kosfas.or.kr). In principle, submission is restricted to members of the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science; however, invited manuscripts are exempt from this requirement.
Manuscripts must be prepared in MS Word on A4-sized paper with 200% line spacing. The following typefaces and font sizes shall be used:
• Headings: Batang (Korean) / Times New Roman (English), 15 pt, bold
• Author names and affiliations: Batang (Korean) / Times New Roman (English), 13 pt, bold
• Body text: Batang (Korean) / Times New Roman (English), 11 pt, regular
All pages must be numbered consecutively.
Types of Manuscripts
The journal accepts the following manuscript types: Review Articles, Original Articles, Notes, and Short Communications. Notes shall follow the same format as Original Articles. Review Articles may be either invited or voluntarily submitted; voluntarily submitted reviews are accepted only after undergoing the same peer-review process as Original Articles.
Manuscript Organization
All manuscripts must be organized in the following order: Title, Author name(s) (including position/title), Affiliation(s), Abstract, Key words, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results (and Discussion), Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, and Appendices. (Revised: March 16, 2020)
Title
The title must concisely convey the content of the manuscript. Subtitles and serial titles are not permitted. A running title must be provided. The title should not exceed 100 characters or 15 words and must not span more than two lines in print.
In English titles, the first letter of every word, except prepositions and articles, must be capitalized. In Korean titles, scientific names following common names are enclosed in parentheses. In English titles, scientific names following common names are rendered in italics without parentheses or a comma (this convention applies throughout the body text as well). In Korean text, parentheses are written immediately adjacent to the preceding word (no space); in English text, a space precedes the opening parenthesis (this applies throughout the body text).
Examples — Korean: 뱀장어(Anguilla japonica)의 영양학적 특성
Examples — English: Nutritional Characteristics of Eels Anguilla japonica
Author Names
In Korean, multiple authors are joined by the middle dot (·). In English, the given name precedes the family name; the first letter of each name is capitalized and the remaining letters are in lower case. When three or more authors are listed, names are separated by commas, with the final author's name preceded by "and". The corresponding author is indicated by an asterisk (*) superscript to the right of the name. When a manuscript has two or more co-first authors, the symbol (†) is added as a superscript. Multiple co-first authors or corresponding authors are permitted only for collaborative work with clearly defined roles; a detailed statement of each author's contributions must be submitted at the time of manuscript submission. (Revised: May 30, 2019)
Examples — Korean: 홍길동·김말수·김철수*·박재동*
Examples — English: Kil Dong Hong, Mal-Soo Kim, Cheolsu Kim* and Jae Dong Park*
Co-Authors with Special Relationships (Inserted 11 June 2026)
If any co-author has a special relationship with the corresponding author — including minors, spouses, children, or relatives within the fourth degree of kinship — the corresponding author must disclose this to the Editorial Board at the time of submission. All required documents requested by the Editorial Board (including prior consent for the provision of personal information) must be submitted. Failure to disclose or deliberate omission of such information will be handled in accordance with the Society's Research Ethics Regulations.
Abstract
The Abstract must summarize the research objectives, methods, results, discussion, and conclusions in no more than 200 words.
Key Words
No more than five key words should be provided. The first letter of each key word must be capitalized.
References
(1) References cited within the text should follow the format illustrated below. For publications with one or two authors, cite all surnames; for three or more authors, cite only the first author's surname followed by et al.
e.g., Kim (1940); Smith and Jones (1980); Park et al. (1980)
(2) All references must be listed in English and arranged alphabetically by first author's surname. Use the abbreviation style of the cited journal. The following formats apply:

Tables and Figures
All captions and legends for tables and figures must be written in English. Tables are numbered as Table 1, Table 2, etc.; figures as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc. Table titles are placed above the table; figure legends are placed below the figure. Legends must be prepared separately from the main text and cited within the text as Fig. 1, (Fig. 1), Table 1, or (Table 1). Scientific names of organisms appearing in table and figure titles must be provided in full (genus and species), written immediately after the common name without a comma. Statistical results must include standard deviations and significance values where appropriate.
(1) Tables
Table captions are written in English using Times New Roman; table contents use Helvetica or Arial. Tables are numbered as Table 1. Footnotes should be avoided where possible; relevant information should instead be incorporated into the caption text. When footnotes are necessary, use Arabic numeral superscripts and format them as shown below.
e.g., ¹The letters indicate…
Table width should reflect the actual printed dimensions: either 8 cm (single-column) or 17 cm (full-page width).
(2) Figures
Figure legends are placed below the figure and written in English using Times New Roman; figure contents use Arial or Helvetica. Figures are cited as Fig. 1 or (Fig. 1) in the text. Figure width should correspond to the actual printed size: 6.5 cm (single-column) or up to 15 cm (full-page width). Multiple figures sharing the same x-axis content should be arranged vertically.
① Graphs: All graphs must be drawn as enclosed rectangles (four-sided frames), not as L-shaped axes. Symbols and their explanations should, where possible, be incorporated into the caption. Line weight for all outer borders and tick marks must be uniform. Tick marks should point inward. Font sizes for axis labels and units must be consistent across all figures.
② Hand drawings: Line weights must be adjusted so that fine details remain visible after reduction. A scale bar is required and its length must be stated in the legend.
③ Photographs: Multiple photographs forming a composite should be arranged with minimal spacing between individual panels. A scale bar is required and its length must be stated in the legend. Color photographs intended for color printing must be clearly labeled as such.
Units
The International System of Units (SI) is required. The symbols ℃, %, °, ′, ″, hyphens, and arithmetic operators are written without spaces before or after when adjacent to numerals or letters; all other unit symbols are preceded by a space.
e.g., Length: m, cm | Mass: kg, g | Time: min, s, h | Temperature: ℃, K | Volume: L, mL | Energy: cal | Salinity: psu
e.g., 5%, 15+2, temperature–time, 5 m, 10 mL
Organism Names
① Scientific names must be given in italics (genus and species) the first time an organism is mentioned. Thereafter, the genus name may be abbreviated.
Korean: 연어(Oncorhynchus keta) | English: chum salmon Oncorhynchus keta → O. keta
② Products derived from aquatic organisms must include the scientific name of the source organism.
e.g., Myeongnan-jeot (salted pollock entrails): a product derived from the intestines of Alaska pollock (Theragra chalcogramma)
Chemical Names
Chemical names and symbols must conform to international convention. Where necessary, explanatory notes may be provided in the main text or as footnotes.
Foreign Terms
Foreign terms must be written in lower case unless upper case is required by the source language (e.g., proper nouns). Within a single manuscript, the same term must not be expressed in both Korean and English interchangeably.
Copyright of Cited Materials
All responsibility for copyright issues arising from the reproduction or adaptation of tables, figures, or other materials from previously published sources rests solely with the author(s).
Abbreviations
When using abbreviations and symbols in the text, refer to the approved abbreviation list provided at the end of these instructions.
e.g., Significant difference: P (upper case)
Gendered Innovation (Revised 16 March 2020)
Authors must use the terms "sex" and "gender" appropriately: "sex" refers to biological sex, while "gender" encompasses psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of identity. Where direct description is not feasible, the method used to determine the sex or gender of study participants, experimental animals (mammals only), or derived cell lines must be reported. If research was conducted in only one sex or gender, the rationale must be explained unless it is self-evident (e.g., prostate cancer). Authors must clearly define any racial or ethnic categories used in the study and provide relevant explanation.
Copyright Policy (Inserted 11 June 2026)
Upon acceptance of a manuscript for publication, the author(s) shall transfer all rights, including copyright, to the Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science. The Society is thereby granted the rights to publish, republish, archive, sell, provide electronic access to, and distribute the manuscript in any form.
· Authors must complete and submit a Copyright Transfer Agreement form following acceptance of their manuscript
Miscellaneous
For matters not specified in these Instructions for Authors, refer to the most recent issue of the journal. Manuscripts that do not comply with these instructions will not be accepted for review.
