Spatiotemporal Growth and Condition Factor of the Longsnout PricklebackLumpenella longirostris in the East Sea

In this study, using monitoring data collected from 2010 to 2024, we examined spatiotemporal variations in the growth and condition factor of the longsnout prickleback (Lumpenella longirostris) in the East Sea. In total, we analyzed 1,097 individuals collected at depths of 300, 500, and 700 m, the overall length-weight relationships of which indicated positive allometric growth (b=3.3159), with the highest growth coefficient being recorded at 500 m (b=3.3348). Although semi-annual differences in total length, body weight, and condition factor were non-significant (P>0.05), we observed significant depth-related differences (P<0.001), with fish collected at 300 and 500 m being characterized by higher biological indicators than those from 700 m. Furthermore, two-way ANOVA revealed significant period-depth interactions for total length and body weight (P<0.05), and during the second half of the year, whereas we recorded larger individuals and increases in the condition factor of fish at 500 m, there was a significant reduction in the condition factor at 700 m. These findings indicate that the biological condition of L. longirostris differs according to depth, with the 500 m zone showing higher potentials for growth and energy accumulation during the pre-spawning period.
